When does a physical condition qualify for disability?
To receive benefits for a physical disability, you must prove to the Social Security Administration (SSA) that your condition severely impacts your ability to work. The specific type of injury, illness, or condition you have is not as important as its effects on your body. Proving you are too disabled to work requires you to demonstrate that your physical ailment or condition:
- Lasts at least a year or is permanent
- Prevents you from being able to perform workplace responsibilities in any industry
Proving a Physical Disability
The SSA requires undeniable medical evidence showing you are unable to work at your previous job or find any kind of new employment. It’s important to work with your healthcare provider to document your symptoms and treatment. The more evidence you have to support your limitations, the stronger your case will be. While you may be able to compile these records on your own, our team can help you prepare documentation.
What if I have both mental and physical disabilities?
We often see people experiencing mental disabilities in addition to their severe physical disabilities. If you have both physical and mental disabilities, proper documentation of all of your limitations ensures the SSA understands your situation completely.
