Do I qualify for Social Security disability benefits?
If you have a mental or physical condition that affects your ability to work, you may qualify for disability benefits. There are medical and non-medical requirements you need to meet in order to receive benefits.
What medical requirements must be met?
Individuals with a disability must have been diagnosed with a medical condition that significantly impacts their ability to work for 12 months or more. Treatment notes from medical providers are required to validate the severity of a disability condition.

What non-medical requirements must be met?
It’s important to understand the differences between Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Both SSDI and SSI are Social Security Disability programs that provide financial support to individuals who cannot work because of a medical condition. You could be eligible for one or both of these benefits depending on your work history or financial situation.
Are you between the ages of 50 and 64?
Individuals who become disabled in this age range are in a unique position when it comes to Social Security disability benefits. Generally, you have to prove that there are no jobs you can perform with your condition(s). At age 50, however, the standard shifts and makes it easier to obtain benefits if you can prove you’re unable to perform jobs you’ve worked in the past. Older workers, particularly those who have worked in physically demanding roles, are more likely to meet disability requirements.
If you’re over 50 and cannot continue to perform the work you’ve been doing, you have a good chance of earning disability benefits. However, you still have to go through the traditional application process and provide proof of your condition and diagnosis.
Why should I work with a Social Security lawyer?

We understand these complex circumstances and want to help you get through this process as quickly as possible. When you work with an experienced attorney, you’ll avoid errors that can lead to lengthy delays and the denial of your claim.
Hiring an Attorney
Do you need help with a first-time application? Have you submitted a claim for SSDI or SSI and been denied? Having an experienced attorney on your side is a strong advantage. You’ll want a Social Security Disability attorney who is experienced at obtaining these benefits for their clients, rather than someone who only takes on the occasional SSDI or SSI case.
